Supported housing

Our supported housing services are provided on a referral-only basis by Julian Housing. Our services are designed for people who have been homeless, and could benefit from additional support before they are able to sustain independent living.
Please note that Julian Housing does not accept self referrals.
Who uses our services?
Clients must be over 26 years old. At the time of referral, they may be homeless, living in vulnerable housing or first stage accommodation (e.g. a hostel), or newly released from prison.
We do not accept self referrals. All applications are made through a referral agent. Agents must provide evidence of the need for supported accommodation. Application packs are available on request.
What do we do?
We offer a second stage, supported housing project. Our team of five support workers assists clients in stabilising their problems and moving on to independent living. Support is available during weekday office hours. Out of hours, there is an emergency on-call system.
Clients enter into an agreement based on a time-bound support plan. The average length of stay is 12 months.
Clients spend the first six months living in a communal house, and intensive support is provided. During this time, clients are linked with external specialised support to help them address the major issues identified during the referral process.
Usually, clients move into a self-contained room for their final six months with us. They work towards improving their skills with the aim of returning to independent living.
Rules
A client's licence may be terminated if they breach our basic rules. We ask clients to abide by rules concerning anti-social behaviour, such as violence and aggression, and drug use or dealing on the premises.
Facilities
We have 72 units of accommodation spread across 13 houses. Most of the properties are in East Oxford. They provide a mixture of self-contained rooms, and rooms with shared cooking and bathroom facilities.
One house incorporates the office, drop-in and support area. Two others have a specific focus:
- Botley Road Project: for clients who have just completed a drug rehabilitation programme and need semi-structured support.
- Life Skills House: for clients who are working on improving their basic life skills as part of their resettlement programme.
